Gorse Ride formed part of a Wokingham Council Masterplan for the replacement of 178 dwellings that had fallen into disrepair and could not be suitably retrofitted, to create 249 high-quality homes. The design was focused around a large village green that acts as the ‘heart’ of the new community.

RCDC were brought in as sustainability experts to review an existing design and advise on changes that would make the project more sustainable. All of RCDCs advised changes were accepted and implemented within the plan, all of which resulted in an annual CO2 saving ff 340 c/tCO2. All changes had to consider the capital cost impact of the client (Wokingham Council), and also the operational running cost for the homes, many of which would be used as social housing.
