BUILDING

COMPLIANCE

RCDC is also able to advise on, and design for, the intricate process of regulatory compliance. Making use of our internal expertise, we are able to provide comprehensive guidance on building regulations, such as Part O, Part L & Part G, as well as providing reporting against CIBSE TM Assessments, such as TM54.

Part O

This newly introduced Part O of the Building Regulations focuses on mitigating overheating in residential buildings. It sets out criteria to minimize the risk of overheating, aiming to ensure thermal comfort for occupants without excessive reliance on mechanical cooling.

Part L

Part L is pivotal in reducing CO2 emissions from buildings, focusing on the conservation of fuel and power. It outlines criteria for the energy performance of buildings, including thermal insulation, heating and cooling systems efficiency, lighting, and other factors affecting energy consumption.

Part G

Part G of the Building Regulations emphasizes water efficiency, setting standards for the consumption of potable water within buildings. It aims to promote water conservation through efficient appliances, fixtures, and water recycling systems.

To provide our clients with the best and most comprehensive compliance data, we undertook the development of our own bespoke calculators. Our custom made,  digital, TM54 tool has now been used on dozens of projects, and it has also resulted in a number of NZC building designs which are currently under construction. The calculator allows in a reduction in calculation time from 2+ weeks down to a matter of days and can quickly undertake multiple iterations of design options. This allows for a data driven design approach to assist in achieving net zero carbon buildings.
