RCDC are currently working on a decarbonisation study for 6no. schools in Herefordshire, for Herefordshire Council. This includes 5 primary schools and 1 secondary school. The aim of the project is to support PSDS grant funding applications for the schools to aid them in decarbonising their buildings.

Using CIBSE TM54 methodology the current energy usage of buildings was predicted with calculations, calibrated to align with energy usage data. This was then the basis for the assessment of several interventions to determine the cost, energy and carbon implications of each. Key interventions were looked at in detail including providing a scope of works and schematics for elements which were selected to form part of a grant funding application. All works included proposals for decarbonising the existing heating systems.

Due to the nature and scale of the works, and the many options available regular check ins with the client to discuss and determine best value were essential. RCDC also engaged and coordinated with the cost consultants for the project to provide cost information for interventions that were fed into our cost to carbon ration calculations. RCDC have liaised with the client and relevant stakeholders to attend all sites, discuss the most feasible interventions, and how to best apply for PSDS grant funding.
